Learning Game Development

I've been meaning to do it for a while, and I finally watched a tutorial on how to make a space shooter game.

All of the art and sound effects were hastily made as I watched the tutorial, but keeping things simple gives it arcade vibes. I still have more stuff I can add, but I have to either fork over money for the ability to HTML5, or I can learn a free and open-source software. As someone just doing this for fun, I'm going with the latter. I'm only one tutorial into GMS2 anyway, so learning a different program will be a smaller step than from just knowing how to code CSS.

I plan on making more games that are reverse-engineered versions of classic internet games from the 2000's. Back when internet games were soulful and still ran on FlashPlayer. It would be really cool to have a page on this site that have games inspired by now-defunct internet games but with different themes. I'm getting ahead of myself, as usual, but I'm looking forward to this new hobby! Check out this preview of my progress so far:
